My first visit to The Engine Works wedding in Glasgow, and it didn’t disappoint. Thanks to Katy + Dan for giving me the opportunity to document their special day for them. After handing over their images, they kindly left me a lovely review on Google….
Engine Works Wedding
“There is an unquestionable skill that John possesses as a photographer. We only had to look at his Instagram page to decide he was the photographer for us. But he is also a wonderful human, you know the type you’d like to have a beer with.
John guided us brilliantly from the get go and was incredibly accommodating and supportive through our numerous potential rescheduled wedding dates and venues throughout the pandemic.
John gave us a call a couple of days before the wedding at a time when we were both feeling a little (a lot) overwhelmed and he was able to put us both at ease and allow the excitement to start building. On the day he was fantastic. From the morning prep to the evening reception, he captured so many incredible moments. Moments that were over in a blink of an eye but now forever preserved in print.
Receiving our photos has been like re-living the day all over again and we can’t help but smile. Booking John as your wedding photographer is the easiest recommendation I could give.
Katy and Dan – 28th December 2021″
The morning preparations began at the elegant One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow, where Katy and the girls indulged in some glam time, courtesy of the talented Jenn Mathieson. The hotel, beautifully adorned with Christmas decorations, provided a festive backdrop for the morning’s activities. Meanwhile, the guys enjoyed a little dram to steady their nerves. With everyone looking their best and spirits high, they headed to The Engine Works for the much-anticipated wedding ceremony.

Wedding Photography at The Engine Works
Katy and her dad made a grand entrance to The Engine Works in his pride and joy—a classic car that turned heads as they arrived. The indoor space at The Engine Works looked incredible, setting the perfect scene for the wedding. Katy was the epitome of elegance in her Maggie Sottero wedding dress and her beautiful flowers from Fiona Callan of “Hey Sunflower Florist”. As the ceremony began, the flower boys walked down the aisle with baskets in hand, eliciting joyful laughter from the guests. The ceremony featured handfasting and a traditional quaich filled with Scottish whiskey, followed by the exchange of rings. Outside, guests showered Katy and Dan with confetti, creating picturesque moments as they mingled with loved ones and friends.

After enjoying some canapés and drinks, and taking a few family group photos, we made our way to the canal just behind The Engine Works for some couple portraits. The waterside setting provided a beautiful backdrop as I captured the moments naturally, allowing Katy and Dan to simply be themselves. They were an absolute joy to photograph, radiating happiness and proving to be complete naturals in front of the camera.

Engine Works Wedding
As mentioned previously, the indoor space at The Engine Works is spectacular. The attention to detail in the table settings and the beautiful lighting around the room created an enchanting atmosphere. Next came the speeches, some of the most heartfelt I’ve ever heard. Not ashamed to admit, I had a few tears myself behind the camera. My mum had sadly passed away just three weeks prior to Katy and Dan’s wedding day, and her funeral was the very next day, making it an especially emotional day for me. The best men then took the mic, lightening the mood and eliciting some much-needed laughter from the guests, as well as from the bride and groom.

Wedding Reception at The Engine Works
Before Katy and Dan got to taste the delicious cake from West Country Cheese, we went outside for some sparkler shots, which always create tremendous photo opportunities. Following the sparkler fun, the couple shared their first dance as husband and wife, a beautiful moment that kicked off the evening’s festivities. The dance floor soon filled with guests showcasing some impressive dance moves thanks to the sounds from Los Perros. This part of the evening is always my favorite, as everyone lets loose, and I get to capture the joy and celebration in full swing.
