Wedding Timings

This may take a few minutes to read, but I believe it’s valuable information when choosing your wedding photographer. It also offers insight into how wedding days generally unfold. With over 17 years of experience and hundreds of weddings captured, I have a clear understanding of how the day typically progresses. Since most couples are experiencing this for the first time, I’ve put together a brief overview of what to expect and how I work to photograph weddings in the most natural way possible. I’m confident you’ll find this helpful, so I encourage you to stick with me.

Morning Prep:
I typically arrive about two hours before your ceremony. This time is important because it helps everyone get comfortable with my presence, and it allows me to blend in naturally. I’m not here to take thousands of photos of you putting on makeup, but rather to capture the essence of what’s happening during these moments. While some of that includes hair and makeup, I’ll also document the finer details and special moments, like a first look with your family. All of these images are candid and unposed, allowing me to capture the day as authentically as possible.

The same goes if I’m covering the guys’ morning prep. Nothing is posed—I’ll simply capture the flow of the day as it naturally unfolds, documenting genuine moments as they happen

Ceremony: Once again, nothing is posed. I discreetly document your ceremony as it unfolds—you won’t even notice I’m there. There’s always so much to capture during this part of the day, and it’s one of my favorites to photograph.

Post Ceremony – Now that you’re officially married and everyone’s excited, it’s time for all the hugs and congratulations. I’ll be right there, capturing these beautiful, spontaneous moments as your family and friends come together to celebrate with you. None of this is posed—it’s all about documenting the natural emotions of the day. After you’ve had a chance to chat with guests, enjoy some canapés, and relax a bit, we’ll move on to the formal group photos. I aim to get these done quickly so you can get back to enjoying your day. Once the group photos are done, I’ll take you both aside for about 20 minutes to capture some portraits. These will be as natural as possible—nothing too staged. We’ll go for a walk, find a great spot, and shoot. I promise, it’ll be painless! After that, you’ll have time to rejoin your guests and soak in the celebration before dinner is called. Easy peasy.

Speeches and DinnerIn most cases, the speeches happen before dinner, and I highly recommend this approach. It lets you relax and fully enjoy your meal afterward without any nerves. I’ll be there to capture every moment, from the speeches themselves to the reactions of your guests. This is another part of the day I love because it’s filled with genuine emotions and natural reactions—perfect for creating unforgettable memories.

Reception and Party time – Following dinner, there’s usually a brief period while the DJ or band sets up. This gives you extra time to mingle, catch up with evening guests, or simply enjoy yourselves. If the light outside is nice, we can step out for 5-10 minutes to capture some additional photos of the two of you. Some of my favorite couple shots are taken around this time, especially if we’re lucky enough to catch a stunning sunset. You’ll see plenty of these kinds of images on my website. Once everything is set, it’s party time! I’ll be there to document all the fun, from your first dance as a married couple to everyone tearing up the dance floor.

I hope this gives you a helpful overview of how a typical wedding day unfolds and how I work to let the day progress naturally for you and your partner. While I focus on capturing stunning photos, my priority is also ensuring you can enjoy time with your family and friends throughout the day. Weddings can fly by in the blink of an eye, so make sure to savor every moment.

I strive to blend in seamlessly, so you won’t feel like “the photographer” is constantly in the way. By being friendly and engaging with your guests, I capture candid, relaxed moments that truly reflect the day’s joy. 2. Hi there, we are getting married at Eilean Donan castle on the 29th May 2025 and love the look of your work.
We are wondering what availability you have and a price list if possible. It won’t be a full day thing as it’s just me, my partner and our children.
    Thank you in advance
