Jack & Robyn’s Wedding at Brig o’ Doon House Hotel

Jack and Robyn got married at Brig o’ Doon House Hotel in Ayrshire. Their day started in two different places, with Robyn getting ready at Kirkgate House and Jack at Fairfield House Hotel, before their Humanist ceremony at Brig o’ Doon.

Their ceremony and reception were both at the hotel. Below is a selection from their wedding, from the morning preparations through to the evening.

Getting ready at Kirkgate House and Fairfield House Hotel

Robyn spent the morning at Kirkgate House, while Jack got ready at Fairfield House Hotel. From there, it was over to Brig o’ Doon for the wedding.

A Humanist ceremony at Brig o’ Doon

Caroline Mortimer led Jack and Robyn’s Humanist ceremony. They included the Scottish tradition of sharing a drink from a quaich as part of it.

Confetti at Brig o’ Doon

After the ceremony came the confetti. This a great chance to get everyone involved and gives me a chance to capture some great candid moments.

Family photographs and couple portraits

We did these with the iconic bridge in the background along with a few off the cuff couples portraits. Nice and simple. 🙂

The wedding reception

I always like to get a few photos of the room once it’s all set up, before everyone comes in for the speeches and dinner. There’s a lot of thought that goes into the tables, flowers and all the little details, so it’s nice to capture it while everything’s still in place. It’s also a part of the day the couple don’t always get to see before their guests settle in.

Speeches

Then it was time for the speeches at Brig o’ Doon, which are always one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph. I like to keep an eye on the guests as well as whoever’s speaking, catching the laughter and reactions around the room. The couple can’t see everything that’s happening while they’re listening, so it’s lovely to give them those moments to look back on afterwards.

Sunset at Brig o’ Doon Hotel

The sun was starting to dip, so we nipped back outside for a few more portraits. I always enjoy this part of the day—there’s usually a bit more time to take things easy, and when the weather plays along, the evening light can make it well worth heading out again. Some of my favourite photos come from these few minutes. The girls came out with us too, so we took the chance to get a few more of them all together.

Cake cutting and the evening reception

Jack and Robyn cut their cake before heading onto the dance floor for their first dance, then it was everyone else’s turn to join them. There were some serious shapes being thrown, and I had a great time catching it all. Have a look through the photos below—you’ll see what I mean!
