Kelly and Liam’s wedding at The Bothy in Glasgow was a proper intimate one — the kind of day where you’ve got time to actually speak to everyone in the room, and where the wee in-between moments matter just as much as the big bits. The Bothy suits that style of celebration really well, especially if you like the idea of keeping everything in one place without it feeling like a “production”.

They had a personal celebrant-led ceremony, and it was led by Alyson — a close family friend — which gave the whole thing a really personal feel from the off. They’d also mentioned they wanted fun, casual photos together (including a wander out on the streets/back roads nearby), and plenty of emotional family moments, especially with the kids and parents. That balance is always a good one: a few minutes for yourselves, and then back in with your people.

Getting ready in Glasgow

Preparations were at the Marriot Hotel on Argyll Street in Glasgow. — because it was a small intimate wedding everyone was here soaking up the atmosphere and we even did a beautiful first look with Kelly and her Dad before heading to the Bothy.

Arriving at The Bothy

Once everyone starts filtering in, The Bothy feels busy quickly (in a good way). For smaller weddings, arrivals are often where a lot of the hugs and catching-up happen, and those photos end up being a big part of the story — especially when you’ve got family travelling in, or kids seeing everyone dressed up.

Personal celebrant-led ceremony at The Bothy

Kelly and Liam’s ceremony was led by Alyson, their humanist celebrant and close family friend. Having someone you already know up there changes the tone straight away — it keeps things grounded and personal, and it means the reactions in the room are well worth paying attention to as the ceremony unfolds.

Confetti outside The Bothy

Yes to confetti — always a good shout. It’s a short part of the day, but it’s one of the few moments where everyone is properly focused on you at the same time, and it’s usually over in seconds. The photos from it tend to be a belter mix of energy and real reactions.

Wedding photos around Glasgow’s West End (near The Bothy)

After the ceremony, we nipped out for some fun, casual photos together, using the streets and backroads around the West End. I like this approach for couples who want something a bit less “posed”: we keep it moving, keep it quick, and it feels like a breather rather than a big photoshoot.

Reception and speeches at The Bothy

With the reception staying at The Bothy, everything flowed straight on from the ceremony into chatting, drinks, and catching up properly. On intimate days, the family moments come thick and fast — especially with children in the mix — so I’m always keeping an eye out for the wee interactions happening around the edges as well as whatever’s front-and-centre. Kelly’s sister and Dad said some beautiful words before they all sat down for a wonderful dinner served by the staff at the Bothy.
