Choosing a venue is about more than finding somewhere that looks good in photographs. Think about where everyone will stay, how the day moves between rooms and whether you would be happy with the indoor plan if it rains.
I’m John, a wedding photographer based in Glasgow. This guide brings together venues across Scotland, with links to my wedding stories where available so you can see more than a few venue photographs. It is a shortlist to help you plan viewings, not a ranking of the “best” venues.

Outdoor elopement destinations
Arrochar, Loch Lomond and the Isle of Skye are areas to explore, not individual venues to book. A scenic location does not automatically mean privacy, easy access or permission to hold a ceremony. Check access and any permissions with the relevant landowner or manager, and discuss your plans with your celebrant.
Think about walking distance, footwear, other visitors, transport and a backup plan for poor weather. Choose somewhere that works for the people coming with you, rather than only for the photograph.

Questions to take to a venue viewing
What happens if the weather rules out the outdoor ceremony or photographs?
Which areas are exclusively ours, and are there other guests or events on site?
Can everyone reach the ceremony, dinner and toilets comfortably?
How many guests can stay, and what transport will others need?
What is included in the quoted price, and which suppliers must we book separately?
When can we set up, and are room changes needed during the day?
