Boturich Castle Wedding

Where do I even begin with Ellie and Nathan’s unforgettable Boturich Castle wedding? Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Loch Lomond and the mighty Ben Lomond, these two tied the knot surrounded by their closest family and friends. From the heartfelt ceremony overlooking the water to the golden sunshine that lasted all day, it was one of those weddings that just felt magical from start to finish. Huge credit to the incredible team at Boturich Castle for keeping everything running so smoothly — it was a dream to photograph from beginning to end.

“Hi John,
Thank you so much for sending all of these through (and so quickly)!! They are amazing! I opened them so quickly when you first sent them through that I realised I forgot to actually reply and say thank you.
Thank you again for everything. You’re the best!”

Ellie

I arrived a little early at Boturich Castle to send the drone up and capture some stunning aerial shots of this incredible Loch Lomond wedding venue — and what a view it was! After that, I headed inside to meet up with the girls for bridal prep and to photograph all the beautiful little details in the room. One of the most touching moments was seeing Ellie’s gran’s wedding ring, lovingly passed down to her — such a special heirloom. I then caught up with Nathan and his best man for a few relaxed photos before heading back in to capture those final touches as Ellie got ready for the big moment.

Boturich Castle outdoor ceremony

It was finally time for the outdoor ceremony, and honestly, it doesn’t get more breathtaking than this — with Loch Lomond stretching out behind them and Ben Lomond rising in the distance, it was the perfect setting for Ellie and Nathan to say their vows. The ceremony, led by the lovely Lucy Cargill, was full of emotion and personal touches. From the traditional handfasting and sharing a drink from the quaich, to the heartfelt words spoken by both mums, it was a truly meaningful celebration to photograph.

“Just to add that I 100% agree with Ellie – you captured it all beautifully, and everyone who’s seen your photos has loved them. Fun and  beautiful, and that light looks amazing!

Thank you again, we’re delighted with your work “

Confetti toss and group photos

After the ceremony, everyone made their way to the front of the pavilion for a confetti toss — always one of my favourite moments to photograph! It’s such a fun way to get everyone involved and capture those big smiles and bursts of joy. Ellie and Nathan then took some time to relax and enjoy the moment with their friends and family before we gathered everyone together for a few group photos.

Scottish Castle Wedding Photos

With a venue as stunning as Boturich Castle, you’re truly spoiled for choice when it comes to locations for couples’ portraits. Ellie and Nathan wanted to spend as much time as possible with their loved ones, so I kept the first portrait session short and sweet — just enough to get some beautiful shots without pulling them away for too long. I had a good feeling the light would be something special later on, so the plan was to head back out around sunset… and wow, did it deliver. More on that below — keep scrolling! 😊 This also gave me time to roam around and just document the day for them as everyone enjoyed themselves.

Boturich Castle room set up

The reception setup was absolutely breathtaking — the team at Boturich Castle and the incredible suppliers had done an amazing job bringing everything together. I made sure to sneak in before the guests to capture the room in all its glory. Just look at how beautiful everything looked — a perfect blend of elegance and personality!

Speeches and wedding breakfast

Ellie’s two sisters absolutely nailed it as the announcers for the wedding breakfast — they had everyone laughing and brought such a great energy to the room. Once everyone was seated, it was time for the speeches, which had the perfect mix of laughs, stories, and a few emotional moments before dinner was served.

Sunset portraits with Loch Lomond views

Remember when I said I had a sneaky feeling we were going to be blessed with a stunning sunset? Well… we absolutely were. As the sun dipped behind the hills and cast that golden glow over Loch Lomond, I grabbed Ellie and Nathan for a quick stroll and a few relaxed portraits. The light was unreal — soft, golden, and everything you could hope for on a wedding day. These are always some of my favourite moments to capture: just the two of them, soaking it all in.

Evening reception in the pavilion

As the sun set over Loch Lomond, it was time to head back inside and get the party started! The dancefloor quickly filled up, and Ellie and Nathan kicked things off in style with their first dance. From there, it was non-stop energy, laughs, and some seriously good moves — the perfect way to end an incredible day at Boturich Castle.

Evening wedding portraits at Boturich Castle

Before I packed up for the night, like I always do, I took a moment to thank Ellie and Nathan for having me along to capture their day — it really is such a privilege. I also asked if they fancied a little bit of fresh air and a few final photos under the night sky… and thankfully, they were up for it! I’m so glad they were, because these evening shots turned out to be something really special. Here’s how it looked…
