Signet Library Wedding

Hannah and James enjoyed their beautiful Signet Library wedding on a misty March morning, with the sun shining through — the perfect start to their wedding day. I arrived in plenty of time to capture some stunning detail shots of this unique Edinburgh wedding venue before making my way along the road to meet up with Hannah and the girls..

“WOW! Thank you so much for so many amazing photos. You have captured our day perfectly! We have taken our time to look through everyone, it is honestly so nice to see the moments that we missed. We loved seeing them all going up onto our gallery, and have shared the link with our family and friends to look through! They all love them! Thank you again for everything”

Bridal prep with Hannah and the girls was full of great photo opportunities. They had booked a stunning Airbnb with large, light-filled windows that instantly caught my eye. As soon as I saw the space, I knew it would be perfect for a couple of photos once Hannah was in her wedding dress.

The boys

After spending time with Hannah and the girls, I went to find James and the boys as they got ready.. A few details stood out, including James’ cufflinks, which had a heartfelt inscription in memory of his aunt — a beautiful tribute. His best man also handed him a card that Hannah had written for him.

Getting married at the Signet Library

I’ve photographed many weddings in Edinburgh, and there are some truly incredible venues, but the Signet Library easily sits in my top 5. Just take a look at that ceremony location — the grand architecture, the elegant columns, and the timeless charm make it absolutely stunning.

One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is capturing the moments during the ceremony. Of course, the couple is the main focus, but the reactions and emotions from their loved ones are just as special. There’s nothing quite like the joy, laughter, and sometimes even a few tears from the guests, especially those closest to the couple.

Confetti and group photos

After the ceremony, we went outside for what was possibly the largest confetti line I’ve ever seen. I’d always recommend a confetti shot because it makes for some great photos but it also gets all the guests involved too which is great.

We then moved on to some family group photos, making the most of the beautiful surroundings of the Signet Library. With the clock ticking before guests were called back in for dinner and speeches, Hannah opted to keep the group photos short and sweet. It’s always a great idea to choose a handful of meaningful shots to capture with loved ones, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the day without feeling rushed.

The couples shoot in Edinburgh

Afterwards, we ventured out onto the streets of Edinburgh for Hannah and James’ couples shoot. The sun was shining, casting a slight haze that gave the city an almost magical glow — perfect for some epic wedding photos. They were keen to get a shot in front of Edinburgh Castle, so we made our way up the Royal Mile. As always, it was bustling with tourists, but a bit of Photoshop magic worked wonders! I couldn’t exactly ask the crowds to step aside, but I knew I could clean things up in post-production. 😊

We made the most of our time and captured so many amazing shots in just about 20 minutes. Then it was time to get them back to their friends and family to soak up the celebrations before everyone headed in for dinner and speeches.

The dinner setup was nothing short of stunning. With its grand columns, towering bookshelves, and elegant decor, the space was transformed into the perfect setting for a wedding reception. Naturally, I took a few minutes to capture it all in its glory before the guests arrived. It’s always worth documenting those little details — from the carefully arranged tables to the glowing candlelight — that add so much character to the day.

Speeches and Celebrations at the Signet Library

It was now time for dinner, but first, a few speeches — including one from James. This is always one of my favourite parts of the day. Much like the ceremony, it’s a fantastic opportunity to capture some genuine, natural candid moments as guests react to the stories.

After the speeches and before dinner was served, I managed to sneak up to the balcony overlooking the Signet Library. It’s a brilliant vantage point and gave me the chance to capture some unique shots of the beautifully set room.

Evening photos at the Signet Library

After dinner, we had a quick 5-minute window to nip outside for a few more photos. The evening light was perfect, and it was a great chance to capture some relaxed moments before heading back inside.

Once we returned, it was time for Hannah and James to rejoin their evening reception guests while the band set up. But that wasn’t all — there was a little surprise in store for the guests too. Scroll down to see what that was 😊

Drums n Roses surprise

After the first dance, the incredibly talented Drum N’ Roses burst in for a surprise 45-minute set — and they absolutely brought the house down. If you’ve never seen them perform, I can’t recommend them enough. The energy was unreal, and the dance floor was literally bouncing with guests singing, dancing, and having the time of their lives. Moments like these are what make a wedding day unforgettable, even the Hannah got involved and had a play on the drums. 🙂
