Kingshouse Glencoe Wedding

Kingshouse Glencoe Wedding days don’t get much more dramatic or atmospheric than this. Rhiana and Tommy were married on a cold but beautifully crisp November afternoon, surrounded by a small group of their closest friends and family in one of Scotland’s most iconic wedding locations.

Tommy is originally from Scotland, Rhiana is from Australia, and the couple now both live over there — but when it came to choosing where to get married, there was only ever one place in mind. Glencoe. With its towering mountains, moody skies, and ever-changing light, it’s an unforgettable setting and a dream location for Glencoe wedding photography.

If you want one less thing to stress about on your wedding day, book John Johnston Photography. John captured every special moment and more, delivering stunning shots of little details we didn’t even notice on the day. His eye for candid beauty is next level.

Outdoor Ceremony in Glencoe

Their entire wedding day took place at the incredible Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe, with an outdoor ceremony overlooking the stunning Highland landscape and the unmistakable Buachaille Etive Mòr standing proudly in the distance. It’s hard to imagine a more epic backdrop for a wedding ceremony in the Scottish Highlands.

The ceremony was beautifully conducted by the wonderful Alyson Stewart, and as always, it was a pleasure working alongside her.

As this was a November wedding, the light fades quickly in Glencoe, so straight after the ceremony I took Rhiana and Tommy out into the landscape while we still had the very best of it. It’s something I always do when I’m photographing weddings in Glencoe — make the most of that incredible, fleeting light while it’s there.

We jumped into my car and headed off into the surrounding scenery, chasing those dramatic views and letting Rhiana and Tommy simply be themselves. No pressure, no awkward posing — just the two of them taking it all in while I captured some truly epic portraits against the Highland backdrop. They absolutely loved every minute of it, nailed it completely, and looked incredible doing it.

He knew all the best photo locations and drove us around to make sure we got the shots we wanted. His style is all about natural, candid moments—and the results speak for themselves.

Kingshouse Wedding Reception at the way inn

It’s pretty incredible just how quickly the light disappears in Glencoe, especially at this time of year. Although we were only out for around 45 minutes — with some of that time spent driving between a few carefully chosen photo locations — by the time we returned to the Kingshouse Hotel, the sun was already slipping behind the mountains and the landscape was beginning to glow in those final, moody tones that Glencoe is so well known for.

Rhiana and Tommy spent some relaxed time catching up with their friends and family before we all made our way into The Way Inn, a wonderfully atmospheric part of the original Kingshouse Hotel building. Dating back to the 1750s and beautifully renovated in 2018, The Way Inn now serves as a pivotal stopping point for walkers tackling the West Highland Way — and it couldn’t be a more fitting or cosy setting for a wedding evening. With its historic stone walls and warm, welcoming feel, it provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxed dinner and a series of speeches from Tommy and a few of his friends and family members..

As the evening unfolded, the celebrations continued with some dancing into the night, the perfect way to round off an incredible Kingshouse Glencoe Wedding. With the atmosphere in full swing and everyone enjoying themselves, I wrapped up coverage for the night and made my way back home, leaving Rhiana and Tommy to continue celebrating with their nearest and dearest in one of Scotland’s most spectacular wedding locations.
